Street Painting Festival 2012

The city of Lake Worth sponsors a Annual Street Painting Festival

and is a favorites of ours to go and experience.
The artists are very talented and their works of art are just beautiful.
My pictures dont do justice to their work but I hope you enjoy them

I just have to say

this young lady is soo talented.

Her painting was my absolute favorite one.

The detail was just amazing

of course have to take some tropical pictures

and these are just a few of the great works

there were there.

The festival was a few streets long

and because of the crowds

we didnt get to see them all

and they also have a street for all the

future young artists

all day was cloudy and we actually felt some

raing drops when we were leaving

which is kind

of sad that all that beautiful work

will be all gone way too soon

And lets not forget the best way to

finish a fun day

then with a nice warm funnel cake

with some fresh brewed rasberry tea

Thank you to all the wonderful artists

that spend two days working on

their beautiful masterpieces

for all us to admire

even if its only for

a short time

til

next year

Infinite Variety Exhibition

but was not lucky to do that :(

but was able to

of the quilts

and even a video of the event setup

Red and White quilt

The blocks were alot of fun

to make

but had a little trouble with the

turn needle applique

specially with the Hearts block

(please whatever you do, do not enlarge the picture

you do not, I mean do not want to

see what a terrible job I did :P )

maybe if I have enough time next week

I make it over

but well see

kids going back to school on Tuesday and

I'm also going back to work

after a nice long vacation :)

I Spy Quilt

My I Spy Christmas Quilt for 2011 -2012
I first wanted to have it done before Christmas but started kind of late
and with all that needed to be done beside working of course it was impossible.
And on New Years day with my daughter and I watching the Twilight Zone Marathon was able to sit down and just sew and was happy to finish top and start quilting it.

Received 200 Lovely 4 inch squares from a swap hosted

back at the beginnig of December

depending on the design I either left them in their original size or

made into a snowball

with a complimentary fabric on the corners

Love all the prints I received but have a few favorites of course

the candy cane on the top left

and

the cute little birds right next to it

but all over all got a very nice

and cute assortment of prints

Love my I spy quilt

finished size 50 X 75

a fun and kind of busy back

and here is all roll up

and ready to be use on Christmas 2012

( I know, I know is only January but

I'm so happy I have one project done for then )

A little happy package arrived today from Tiina in London, UK.
Its a beautiful red and white needle turn applique dots with some really amazing handquilting.
Just Beautifully made and so fitting for me :) Dont you think?

She also send a very cute card with all types of sewing related items on it. I'm going to framed is sooo cute. Also inside the card she added some buttons and little Heart charms. When I open the card they fell all over the quilt they look so pretty all over it.

Wrapped in Hope

Back in January I sign up to be a volunteer to make a quilt for a child who was sign up by his father for the Wrapped in Hope Program. I felt a little connection for Terrell and wanted to make quilt for him who is turning 9 and likes sports too just like my own "Flaco" at home.
And today having a nice long weekend was able to finished the quilt for Terrell. His father wrote that his interest are soccer, football, blue and red. Was able to get all of them in the quilt. :)
I really enjoyed making it and kept thinking of him and his family. Even if I dont know what he looks like I can only imagine him being nonstop energy like my Chris. I hope he likes his quilt and knows that his father Loves him very much.

other is football fabric

He can choose either side to be the front

3 African Violets

I just made 3 African Violets Blocks for the Block Lotto.
My first time joining this group manage by Sophie. Had to email her my picture for her to post them for me so I didn't miss the deadline of August 31st.

Very windy and rainy in Florida today

Happy that it will miss us but worry if it continues its path to the Carolinas and my hometown of Long Island. Praying it losses its strength in the ocean and misses the East Coast completely

To take a picture for 1st day back to school. :(
It was so early and as always running around making breakfast. I totally forgot to take a picture.
My daughter had to be at the bus stop at 6:30 and it was still dark. She is a freshman in High School now
and was worry about been in a new school but hopefully will find old friends and make new ones.
So proud of my "baby girl"
And also proud of my son who starting 3rd grade and getting to be a big tall boy LOL

My Warm-Cool Top Finished !

I joined the warm-cool quilt-along back in june hosted by Jenni from

previously I had participated in a fabric square swap

with Bolo Heads

and received 200 rainbow squares

and needed to add some squares from

my fabric stash

and here I have my 336 - 4 inch rainbow squares

paired in one warm and one cool color

ready to be made into half square triangles

Half Squares Triangles all ready for trimming

all ready and square off to a 3 1/2 inch finish size
next to them is a cute little pile of fabric trimmings :)

on the side

I tried a few different layouts

and finally

decided in this final look

I like the way the sun shines on the quilt top :)

And here is the final top pieced together

it measures 62 x 49

I like the center diamond offset to the side

and the look of a ripple effect

the light coming thru the back door

made the most interesting look on the quilt top

Love the stainglass effect !!

Yesterday I received two surprises in the mail :)

There was a package from Melinda

and a envelope from Joke (Jora )

I open Melindas first, its my Santa Swap gifts for the

month of August. Oh, my,Oh, my,

you just don't know

how tempting it is to take a little peek ;P

But I was Good, I promise I put them right

away in my Santa Sack and

back in the closet. Away just for a little while

til I can open them on Christmas, hehe :)

Then I open a international envelope from The Netherlands

which contained

Two Beautiful Hexie Flowers from

I Love them both

the picture dosent show their true colors

One is a nice tulip fabric and the other have crocus flowers

When we lived in New York I used to have

both of those flowers in my garden

including daffodils and Irises

I love bulb flowers

is very sad that in Florida we dont get to

experience Spring the same way

I can't believe how time flies and I forgot to post about the

Zippy Purse Swap

I made

for Sharon in Australia

It got to her at the beginning of June

She had mention that she liked the new "Sunkissed" fabric.

You can see the printed selvage on the one side

of the bag

For the back I pieced different pattern fabrics all

in the same color family

and a

nice piece of fabric with the words Hope, Grow and Sprout on it

added a little pocket in the inside with our names

and the year of the swap

I also included four fat quarters of the new DS fabric

that I found in my local Joann's

and a little package of half hexagons paper pieces

I know she likes to do Paper Piecing work

Sharon dosen't have a blog, not yet! but I hope soon she will :)

because I would Love to see some of her projects

She mention on one of her emails

that at her local quilt store they were going to have

Paper piecing designer Sue Daly

Sue has some really amazing designs

Oh, if only she can come to South Florida

Santa Sack Swap - Received

Here is the picture of my Santa Sack

is a beautiful handmade pillowcase with the cutest snowmen and great snowflake border.

I can't wait till I can use it :)

In the meantime is going to hold these two great gifts that she included for the month of July . And look she used fabric instead of paper to wrap the presents   :)   more fabric for ME     LOL

Bee Blocks

I just went to the post office and send some Bee blocks to my Bee partners

Firts block is for Carolyn in Canada for her June block for the Let's Bee together bee
( I hope it gets there quick )
Carolyn wanted for us to make something fun and not to stress about it :)
I decided to use the Kaleidoscope pattern. Her fabrics match very nice together for the pattern.
I hope she likes it :)

also made the same block with my fabrics

Second is for Wendy for her July block also for the Let's Bee together bee

She requested that we make her a Ann's Star and provided for us with the pattern from

Her only request was for us to use the tan/maroon hearts for the background.

When I sew the rectangles with the 2 1/2 inch squares to make the star points I ended up with HST and decided to make them into small little flying geese.

I included them in the envelope to Wendy I hope she can use them :)

Staci requested a Mod Mosaic Block and to tell you the truth I have never made one. I'm one to follow a pattern and measurements :S I really was worry I was going to mess up it up.
But I think it came out good :) I really hope she likes it :P

Looking at it now I can't believe it took me all morning to make just one block

Also included some left over fabric and a small piece strip that I took apart since

it was become to be a very odd shape (square )

Hopefully she can used it

Well, I hope the squishy envelopes get to their happy homes soon.

Now let me go and see what I can do to finish some of my WIP's

Only few more days til vacation is over.

Do I really need to go back to work on Monday?

or do you think it will look weird if I call in sick??

but :) to be having some nice family outings
I hope you all had a nice weekend. The weather has been hot and we have been having so much needed rain. We had a very nice 3 day weekend and one of those days we drove to Miami and to the Parrot Jungle Island
.

We love all those beautiful bright birds (loud :P) but beautiful and smart little creatures .

He Loves Nature and wished he can take one of those snakes home. Thank God they were not for sale :)

Block for Mollie

Here is the sneak peek I send to Mollie at Lets Be Together for her May block

This is a closer look at the applique flower in the middle of the block

I like the fabrics she send , very nice rich colors

I used pattern block# 139 from the 100 Block magazine

I also made the same block using my fabrics but as you can see the fabrics did not stand out as much.

Also need to make the flower to put in the middle of the block.

I usually post early in the morning before I go to work, but some reason I could not post any pictures today. Here is a picture of my little Flower I made yesterday.

Also yesterday I received two beautiful Hexi Flowers from Anne-Mette. They came all the way from Danmark! She also included a nice postcard of a tourist area that is about an hour away from her.

I Love the fabrics she use and the colors are beautiful!

Show and Tell Monday

For today's Show and Tell I want to show you my Daughter's quilt. I promise her I will finish it and give it to her at the end of the school year. I was close enough, her last day was Thursday and I finish putting the binding on Saturday.
She totally Loves it. :)

Quilted Bag for Rachel

My secret partner for the quilted bag swap was Rachel in Texas.

She send me a email letting me know she received it and Love it :)
Now I can post pictures of her bag since I wanted it to be a surprise for her.

Here is a picture of one side of the quilted bag. She said that she liked cat fabrics and the color blue. Right away I knew I had the right fabric to make it with.
Is an allover fabric with pictures of different cats walking on the beach and the cutest kitty sunbathing. The beach scene was perfect since it was coming from Florida, LOL. The other fabric has paws and is blue just like she requested.

I did an outline quilting around all the large figures to make them standout.

And a stippling stitch on the blue fabric

Also added pockets in the inside

I didn't take a picture of the extra fabric I send her. It was a fabric cut out and sew panel to make a stuff cat with blue roses allover.
Also made her a pincushion with the same fabric, I used the picture of a kitty wearing a sunhat.
I'm very happy to know that she like it :)

Zippy bag received from Australia

I just received the cutest zippy bag from Sharon in Australia!

Love all shades of purples and the novelty fabrics are so cute :)
She did such a great job with all those hexies and the embroidery is gorgeous!

Both sides are so pretty

And here is all the contents from her package. Milliners needles, measuring tape, cute Stitched Stationary, a very nice Hatched and Patched pattern called " Sewing Angel Tool Store" can't wait to start making it. I think I will used for my embroidery tools and supplies :)
Sharon also included a beautiful postcard with the picture of the Shoalhaven River Bridge what a lovely way to see another country's famous sights.
Thank you sooo much Sharon for just a great gift and for been such a generous swap partner.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention the cute chocolate bars with a cute Koala bear on it. My kids grab those quickly after taking the picture .LOL they really enjoyed them.

I Love it. The yellow and blue combination fabric is perfect for me.
I have to be thankful to Diah Rothman who made such a great bag and it came all the way from Malaysia. What a great way to meet someone so special like Diah.
Right after I open her package I went to see her blog and got to read about her family, her country and her sewing journey. Her creativity is amazing , she is into so many different types of arts and crafts.
Diah also included a little pincushion to match my bag. As I been reading in her blog she has a basket full of those cute little Hexie pincushions to give as gifts for her guest who come to visit her at her studio.

Soo Happy today, I had a very productive few days.
Even thought I finished the following items, I would like my partners to be surprise when they get them.
I'll wait until I know they have received their little packages before I post the pictures here.

Here is my list
1- Hexie Flowers for my May and June partners
2 - Lets Bee together May Block for Mollie
3- Zippy Bag for swap partner in Australia
4- Quilted bag for swap partner in Texas

I drop them off at the post office today. Actually we are very lucky our main post office is open on Sunday's til 7 pm and I don't need to use my lunch hour from work to wait in line to send them.
I hope they get there soon and the Ladies like what I send them.

UFO Thursday

Today I would like to show you one of my many UFO's

and the oldest one too. Is approximate 10 years old :0

I know, thats kind of sad and actually embarassing to put down in writing LOL

I really dont have an excuse why I didnt' continue except that new patterns and/or new ideas come along and I get easily distracted :) but I'm going to really make some time to finish it

You can see by the choice of fabrics it is an Old UFO :)
They are about 6 inch squares and I have 25 all together.

Tha pattern is from Quiltmaker's magazine May/June 2001

I already have 10 butterfly blocks with their antennas embroidered on and I just need to finish 15 more blocks after that I just need to join them together. And hopefully still have some of the cloud fabric somewhere in my stash.

One finished project and one in the works

My finished project for today, is not quilting but is another of my many hobbies. I made this Pink Polka Dot dress for a friend is a Birthday gift for her 2 yr old. I hope she likes it, it is going all the way to New York. :)

I love dresses with big girly bows on the back

I also decorated a waffle crochet headband to match the decoration on the dress.

And this little project is whats waiting for me at my sewing machine :)

Its my daughter's quilt, it was supposed to be a Christmas gift for her and then it was to be her January birthday present and now I'm hoping to finish it so I can give it to her at the end of May, when she finishes middle school and will be going into High School. I can't believe how fast time flies! I feel so proud of her to be such a great student and artist but above all a Great Daughter. I'm very happy for her about the great changes that are happening but I also feel kind of sad that my Baby Girl is so grown up and her wings are spreading a little bit wider :)

April Hexie

I came home today to find a nice envelope waiting for me from Canada.
And to my surprise :o it was my April Hexie from Natasha :)

She also send a nice sunflower card with good wishes.
The colors in the picture are kind of off because it's a nice red floral with a light yellow center.

Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long

Just a little show and tell on my Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long project
Here is a picture of the corners pieces with the sashing and the Dissapearing 16 patch blocks. I have 20 blocks to make a 4 x 5 pattern quilt which will measure 68 x 85 . Also included in the picture on the top right side is a Happy little pile of HST for a future project , they were leftovers from the corner pieces :)

Here are the Happy blocks after the corner pieces with the shashing are sewn to the Dissapearing 16 patch block. I like the way the fabrics look next to each other.

I love it ! I love the colors and the way the petals meet each other. Really nice job with the fuzzy cutting ( something I need to try )

We needed to send 200 squares 4 inch squares - in 20 groups of 10 different children designs or novelty prints and in return we will received 200 squares of differents designs each.

I didn't take a picture of the ones I send just of the cute little pile of squares I cut out. :0

I was so happy to see the package in the mail. I practically tore the envelope open LOL

There is such a great selection of prints some even look vintage.

I'm very please with the great selection I received and looking forward to making a nice quilt with them.

Birdie Stitches Block #2

I just finished with the February Birdie Stitches Block #2 a little late since now block #3 for March is up.
Had fun learning new stitches, relaxing and just enjoying a quite time embrodering.

I decided to use only pink and red fabric to go along with the Love theme.
ok, now on to the next WIP project .

Disappearing 16 patch blocks

My Disappearing 16 patch blocks are all done and ready for the next step. I'm using Fandango for the quilt-a-long with Happy Quilting hosted Melissa Corry at http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot.com/

I like the way they came out but some blocks have too much of one color like the one in the picture. I dont know if I should redo some of them now or just leave it?
I have a total of 20 finish blocks which they will make a 68 x 85 quilt . Now I just need to start on the corner blocks and the sashing. I'm hoping to have a nice long weekend at my sewing machine :) then again between soccer and swimming and just cleaning the house, time just goes so fast.

A beautiful Hexie flower for my garden

I received a beautiful Hexie flower from Karylin. I'm her February swap partner.

I love the yellow and blue color combination. The blue vine pattern is so cute and can you believe the yellow polka dot center? is just perfect ! I love my little flower

Playing Fabric Sudoku

I just finished 9 - 16 patch blocks for the Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long.

I felt like I was playing fabric Sudoku today by making sure I have a nice assortment of patterns in one block and not to have the same fabric next to each other.

I finish 9 blocks this is not the final arrangement but I really like it so far. Still not sure how big I will be making the quilt. It would be nice to make it larger but I need to get another layer cake to make another 9 blocks.

And here is a picture of my son Christian as always not paying attention of what I'm doing and getting in the front of the camera when I'm trying to take a picture.
I love my silly boy :)

Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long

I have just posted my pictures and introduce myself at the Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long flicker group.

I will be using a Fandango Layer Cake with Bella Solid-Ivory.
And now all layers are cut into nice 5 inch squares and separated it into some kind of color group. I still haven't decided on how big I want the quilt to be but I'm very happy with all the colors and specially the patterns in this fabric line :)

I recently purchase them at Burgundy Buttons. They have great prices and right now they have a sale going on check out their blog and store :)

Ok, I'm so glad I finish with those block, well at least I catch up till next week. Which I'm sure I will fall behind again since I 'm following so many quilt alongs and not enough hours in a day. I need to finish some items for my show next weekend and for my etsy shop (children's clothing).

One for you and one for me.........

I just finished the Let's Bee Together February block for Ann.
I like her choice of fabrics and the colors. My favorite was the yellow polka dots ( gee,, I wonder why ? ) : ) anyway, it was a very easy and stress free block since she chose her block and placement of her main fabric so it was very fast to make.

I hope she likes it :)

Since I wanted to try the block to make sure it will be the right size before I cut someone else's fabric.I made one from my stash fabric.

And then I decided to make one from the same block pattern I used for the Let's Bee Together January block for Linda.

I really like how both came out I think I will continue making one from each block I make for the Let's Bee Together A group.

For that reason my title is One for U and One for Me :)

2nd Block for Blogger's Block-a-palooza

I kind of had a trying time with all those little squares. It seemed like it took me forever to make it right for me. The color choices from the original block did not have much contrast so I changed the design a little and added other fabrics to add some more color.

I placed the white with writing in each corner and actually made sure I had the writing going the same direction. I like it better that way :) I Placed the grey stripe square in the middle and a different grey pattern around to make it look like a diamond. Like I said the color choices did not have much contrast but I think it will work at at the end.

Block #1 : Flying over fields with Quilt Dad - John Cary

I like the way this block turn out . Very nice design thanks to John .
I used the solid yellow and solid grey that came in the 8th bundle.
Sorry, :( that I dont have the exact number for the fabrics that I used. I was so eager to start on the block that I just untied the bundle and mixed all the fabrics and then I notice the small paper with the number reference for each fabric.
Maybe next time I will be more organized LOL

I'm very happy with the fabric choices :)

Presents for me!!

Look what came in the mail! :)

and they are here just in time for tomorrows big event.

I'm all ready, How about you? I will definitly will be using the Sunkissed line. I only purchase the Fat eight bundle and a Bella solid jelly roll and will see how I will incorporate them into the design. Otherwise I will get some yardage later.

I also got Breakfast at Tiffany's fat eight for the Henrietta block of the month. I had a charm pack on hand and I tried the first block with it and really love the way it looks. Now I definitly have enough for the whole quilt.

And for my future projects < ^ .. ^ >

They are all so beautiful! I can't wait to start working with them.

Birdie Stitches Block # 1

I choosed Bliss for my Birdie Stitches block of the month. I have a couple of charm packs that I think it will be enough for the blocks.

I really like the way the block turn out. I haven't embroider in such a long time. Maybe since I was teen which is a long time ago . I remember when we used to have Home Economics at school and they used to teach us crafts, sewing and even cooking. WOW I think I'm giving my age away, O well , anyway it has being a long time ago. I always got frustrated with the way my stiches will not cover the area. This time I just took my time.

I'm happy with it:)

I learn a new stitch. The fringe on the snowmans scarf is call the Turkey stitch and it was so easy. The satin stitch is the one that took me a long time but I really like the way it turn out. Love the colors aqua and red together.
